I don't believe in smartphones
but I do believe in my refrigerator
to keep my beer cold
on a hot summer's night
when no one but grasshoppers
sit with me on the grass
I don't believe in God
but I do believe things happen for a reason
like boy meeting a girl at both the wrong place and time
like in that Ironic song
although otherwise
they never would have met at all
I don't believe we die in vain
unless we leave no stories behind
and we do need them to create history
even though no one will ever remember
but us
